Claude Motion vs Claude Code + Remotion for Animated Video

What each one costs as of October 2026 and how to set up Remotion with Claude Code.

Reviewed by Jonathan West · Updated Oct 11, 2026

Choose Claude Motion if you want an animation from a chat prompt, with no code, on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan. Choose Claude Code with Remotion if you need programmatic or batch video that you own as React code. Anthropic announced Claude Motion in beta on October 8, 2026.

Claude Motion operates inside the Claude web and desktop applications as an Artifacts template, requiring no developer environment and exporting directly to MP4 video. Remotion runs in Node.js and React, rendering videos locally through a command-line interface (CLI), across server endpoints, or in parallel on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda. Remotion's homepage says you can render in bulk, and Anthropic has not published a batch option for Claude Motion.

Claude Motion requires a Claude Team or Enterprise subscription, with no standalone pricing published on the Anthropic announcement page. Remotion is free for individuals, non-profit entities, and for-profit businesses with up to three employees per the Remotion GitHub license, but larger organizations must purchase commercial plans from remotion.pro/license.

Which One to Use

Use Claude Motion if you need an animated explainer created directly from a conversation without managing code, and your team already holds a Claude Team or Enterprise subscription. Use Remotion with Claude Code if you require programmatic, batch video generation, custom React components, or templated video you own as React code.

The deciding questions are whether someone on the team will work with React code in a terminal, and whether you need one video or many rendered in bulk. Anthropic has not published an API or batch option for Claude Motion.

Remotion provides a full programmatic framework. It treats video as code, allowing developers to build motion graphics with React. When paired with Claude Code, developers prompt an AI coding agent in their terminal to generate video scenes and inspect output in Remotion Studio.

  • Choose Claude Motion for quick conversational animations on Team or Enterprise Claude plans
  • Choose Claude Motion to create onboarding clips and animated board charts without a local development environment
  • Choose Remotion with Claude Code to generate video programmatically, render in bulk, and build apps
  • Choose Remotion with Claude Code if you need to run video rendering pipelines on AWS Lambda or local servers
  • Choose Remotion if your Claude plan is Free, Pro, or Max, since Claude Motion is in beta only on Team and Enterprise as of October 2026

How Claude Motion Works

Claude Motion builds animations by writing code that animates text, charts, shapes, and images inside a dedicated Artifact template. Anthropic designed Claude Motion without a video generation model, meaning it produces no artificial footage and no synthetic human actors. The New Stack reported on October 8, 2026, that developers had already built similar videos with Claude Code and frameworks such as Remotion and HeyGen's open-source HyperFrames. Each animation plays like a short video.

Users can initiate Claude Motion by asking in any chat, typing /motion into the message field, choosing Motion under the Output menu, or selecting the Motion template in the Artifacts tab. Users can ask Claude to update a single word, change a numeric value, or alter timing parameters, and the rest of the composition remains intact.

Claude Motion requires Cloud code execution and file creation enabled in workspace settings. On Enterprise plans, Claude Motion is off by default until an organization owner turns it on in Organization settings under Artifacts, as documented in the Claude admin guide. Completed animations can be downloaded as MP4 files or opened directly in external video tools.

Setup Steps for Remotion with Claude Code

To set up Remotion with Claude Code, you create a blank project, add the Remotion Agent Skills, and start the local preview server. The official Remotion Claude Code documentation gives the steps listed below.

The Remotion skills page gives a second official command for the same skills, npx skills add remotion-dev/skills, alongside the npx remotion skills add command on the Claude Code page.

Remotion Agent Skills define best practices for working in Remotion projects, and the Skills page names Claude Code, Codex, Kimi Code, and Cursor as target agents. Remotion documentation pages serve raw markdown if the request header specifies Accept: text/markdown or if an agent appends.md to any documentation URL, such as remotion.dev/docs/player.md. Developers can view community prompts on the Remotion Prompt Showcase, which features projects such as map travel routes and news headline highlights.

  • Scaffold a blank project and enter it: npx create-video --yes --blank my-video, then cd my-video
  • Install Agent Skills using npx remotion skills add or npx skills add remotion-dev/skills
  • Start the preview with npm run dev
  • Open a second terminal, cd my-video, run claude, and prompt the video

What Remotion and Claude Motion Cost

Remotion requires a paid Company License once a for-profit company has more than three employees, while Claude Motion is bundled into Claude Team and Enterprise subscription tiers. Remotion distributes its core repository under a custom license detailed on GitHub. The Free License permits usage by individuals, non-profit or not-for-profit organizations, and for-profit businesses with up to three employees. It also covers non-commercial evaluation.

All other commercial users must obtain a Company License via remotion.pro/license. As of October 2026, the Remotion for Creators plan costs $25 per month per seat for creating videos for yourself. The Remotion for Automators plan costs $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum. Enterprise licenses start at $500 per month.

Anthropic has published no standalone price or per-render fee for Claude Motion. It is included in Claude Team and Enterprise plans, drawing from standard usage limits. Anthropic notes in Claude Motion support documentation that complex or lengthy animations consume more usage limit than standard chat messages. Users on Claude Free, Pro, and Max plans cannot access Claude Motion as of October 2026.

A for-profit company with 4 or more employees needs a Remotion Company License, from $25 per month per seat as of October 2026. Anthropic has published no separate price for Claude Motion, which counts toward the Claude plan's usage limits.

How Remotion and Claude Motion Render Video

Remotion can render on your own machine, through its server-side rendering API, or in parallel on AWS Lambda, while a Claude Motion animation is downloaded from Claude through Export and MP4. Developers render Remotion videos from the command-line interface using npx remotion render HelloWorld or trigger an interactive composition selector with npx remotion render as documented on the Remotion render documentation.

Remotion includes a server-side rendering API, an alpha deployment target for Google Cloud Run, and an Amazon Web Services integration through Remotion Lambda. Remotion Lambda renders parts of a video in parallel across serverless functions and stitches them together, within AWS's default limit of 1,000 concurrent Lambdas per region. Remotion says most of its users render multiple minutes of video for a few pennies on Lambda. Lambda does not support AV1 encoding. It works best for videos under about 80 minutes at Full HD.

Anthropic has not published an API, a command-line renderer, a bulk option, maximum animation lengths, resolution ceilings, or frame rate specifications for Claude Motion. Claude Motion fits one-off assets such as an animated chart for a board deck, and Remotion fits automated, high-volume rendering.

Sending a Claude Motion Animation to Other Video Tools

Claude Motion can pass an animation to another video tool as well as export it as an MP4 file.

Anthropic's announcement highlights direct handoff paths from Claude Motion to Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI, and Runway, with Canva and Captions listed as coming soon. HeyGen builds videos around AI avatars, and Runway and Luma AI generate footage with models such as Gen-4.5 and Ray 3.2.

Developers seeking code-driven video outside Remotion can also evaluate HeyGen HyperFrames. HyperFrames is an open-source framework licensed under Apache 2.0 that renders video from HTML and supports Claude Code via the Claude plugin marketplace. HyperFrames provides an HTML alternative, while Remotion uses React.

Claude Motion does not generate AI footage or digital people. If a video needs an AI avatar or generated footage, open the Claude Motion animation in HeyGen, Runway, or Luma AI.

The Verdict

Claude Motion is the right choice for business teams on Claude Team or Enterprise plans who want quick motion graphics from chat prompts. It needs no local development environment or React code, and it builds animated charts and onboarding explainers inside a Claude chat.

Claude Code combined with Remotion is the right choice for developers who require programmatic, reproducible video pipelines. Its videos are React code, so you can template them and render them in bulk with Remotion Lambda.

Neither option makes generated AI footage or AI avatars from text prompts. Claude Motion animates static assets through code without a video foundation model, and Remotion compiles React layouts. Teams that need AI avatars or generated footage should use dedicated platforms such as HeyGen, Synthesia, Runway, or Luma AI instead.

Two developments would change this comparison. If Anthropic releases an external API for Claude Motion with batch data ingestion and expands access to Pro plans, Claude Motion would challenge developer-focused programmatic tools for routine automation. Conversely, if Remotion releases a zero-install browser interface for non-technical users to prompt and edit compositions without terminal tools, Remotion would eliminate Claude Motion's advantage in team usability.
