How to Animate with Claude Motion

Start an animation from the Output menu or /motion, then download it as an MP4 file.

Claude Motion creates short, code-driven animations from plain language prompts on Team and Enterprise plans. Anthropic launched Claude Motion in beta on October 8, 2026, alongside Claude Dashboards. It does not use a video generation model. Claude writes code that animates the text, charts, shapes, and images, and the result plays like a short video.

Claude Motion is distinct from the Motion calendar application and the Motion animation library.

How to Make an Animation with Claude Motion

To make an animation with Claude Motion, start Motion from the Output menu, describe what you want, and export the result to MP4. You need a Team or Enterprise plan with Motion turned on.

  • 1. Plan and capability setup: Verify an active Claude Team or Enterprise plan. On Enterprise plans, an organization owner must enable Motion under Organization settings > Artifacts. Admins must also verify that Cloud code execution and file creation is enabled under Organization settings > Capabilities.
  • 2. Starting the Motion interface: Open any conversation and select Output in the message box, then choose Motion. Users can also type /motion into the composer box or select a Motion template from the Artifacts tab.
  • 3. Prompting the scene: Describe the requested animation in plain language. Examples include an explainer for an all-hands, an animated chart for a board deck, or a product walkthrough for customer onboarding.
  • 4. Editing the animation: Because each animation is code, you can change one detail, like a word, a number, or the timing, and the rest stays as it was.
  • 5. Exporting and handing off: Select Export in the artifact interface and choose MP4 to download the rendered video. The file can also be sent directly to external editing tools.

What Claude Motion Can and Cannot Make

Claude Motion animates text, charts, shapes, and images, and it does not generate video footage.

In the official launch announcement, Anthropic explicitly stated that Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, meaning there is no generated footage and no AI-generated people. For generated video clips, the Can Claude make videos page lists tools that generate footage.

Three First Animations to Try in Claude Motion

Anthropic highlights three starting scenarios for Claude Motion: an explainer for an all-hands, an animated chart for a board deck, and a customer onboarding walkthrough.

Each prompt below is suggested wording, paired with one detail to change after the first version.

  • Suggested wording: "Build an explainer for an all-hands meeting outlining quarterly product milestones." Afterwards, change one word in the text.
  • Suggested wording: "Create an animated chart for a board deck displaying quarterly revenue growth." Afterwards, change one number in the chart data.
  • Suggested wording: "Make a product walkthrough for customer onboarding showing how to add workspace members." Afterwards, change the timing.

How Claude Motion Builds an Animation as Code

Every animation in Claude Motion is an artifact made from the Motion template. As outlined in the Anthropic Artifacts overview, artifacts include designs, presentation decks, documents, dashboards, and small interactive utilities.

For a board-deck chart, a late change to one figure means editing one number.

The New Stack reported that Claude writes code to animate the user's text, charts, and images because Anthropic has no video model. It added that developers had already built similar videos with Claude Code and frameworks such as Remotion and HeyGen's open-source HyperFrames. Claude Motion launched alongside Claude Dashboards, and both build artifacts from templates. Artifacts are also available in Claude Code, covered in Claude Code artifacts and dashboards.

Which Plans Include Claude Motion

As of October 2026, Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only. Free, Pro, and Max accounts cannot use Claude Motion. In contrast, Claude Dashboards is accessible across Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions.

On Team plans, Claude Motion is enabled by default. On Enterprise plans, Claude Motion is off by default until an organization owner turns it on under Organization settings > Artifacts. The Claude Team plan guide covers the plan itself.

The Artifacts admin guide specifies that administrators must enable Cloud code execution and file creation within Organization settings > Capabilities before users can run artifact templates. In HIPAA-ready organizations, an owner can turn on Motion after accepting the terms. Motion is not covered under the organization's Business Associate Agreement (BAA), so keep protected health information (PHI) out of it. Artifacts are available on Claude web, desktop, and Claude Code, but Anthropic does not provide them through third-party cloud hosting platforms.

Export to MP4 or Open in Another Video Tool

Claude Motion supports direct file export to standard MP4 video files and integrates with external video post-production tools. To download an animation locally, users select Export in the artifact interface and choose MP4.

Per the launch announcement, users can transfer completed animations directly into Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI, or Runway. Direct integrations with Canva and Captions are listed by Anthropic as coming soon.

Descript is a text-based video and audio editor. Runway and Luma AI generate footage with video models such as Gen-4.5 and Ray 3.2; Claude Motion uses no video model. The Claude Motion alternatives comparison sets these tools side by side.

When to Use Claude Code and Remotion Instead

Developers requiring full programmatic control, bulk rendering, or building video apps should consider Remotion over Claude Motion. Remotion is a framework for creating videos and motion graphics with React. It supports server-side rendering, batch processing, and scalable parallel rendering through AWS Lambda.

Remotion offers a Free License for individuals, non-profits, and businesses with up to 3 employees. Other companies need a Company License, which as of October 2026 costs $25 per month per seat (Remotion for Creators) or $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum (Remotion for Automators). Claude Motion requires no separate license but remains tied to Claude subscription tiers.

Engineers can pair Claude Code with Remotion using Remotion's Claude Code guide. A project starts with npx create-video --yes --blank my-video. The Agent Skills install with npx remotion skills add, or with npx skills add remotion-dev/skills per the Skills page. Teams can also examine HeyGen HyperFrames, an open-source Apache 2.0 framework built for coding agents, where you write HTML and it renders video. The Claude Motion vs Remotion comparison covers setup and cost side by side.

  • Execution environment: Claude Motion runs entirely inside the hosted Claude workspace, whereas Remotion executes locally or across cloud infrastructure via Node.js and AWS Lambda.
  • Skill requirements: Claude Motion works from plain-language prompts, whereas a Remotion project is React code run from the terminal, which Claude Code writes when you prompt it.
  • Rendering scale: Claude Motion creates single animations interactively, whereas Remotion supports automated bulk rendering pipelines and programmatic video applications.
  • Licensing terms: Claude Motion counts toward the Claude plan's usage limits, whereas a for-profit company with more than 3 employees needs a Remotion Company License.

Usage Limits and Unpublished Specs

Claude Motion counts toward your plan's usage limits, and Anthropic publishes no separate price for it. The Claude Motion help center guide notes that longer or more complex animations use more of a plan limit than a typical message.

Anthropic has not published a maximum animation length or export resolution for Claude Motion, so export a short test before building a deck around a specific size. The Claude Motion alternatives comparison covers tools for generated footage and bulk rendering.
