Gemini 4 Argon Limits: Technical Boundaries and Quotas

The token and batch caps Google publishes for Gemini 4 Argon, as of October 2026.

Reviewed by Jonathan West · Updated Sep 9, 2026

Gemini 4 Argon accepts up to 1,048,576 tokens of combined input and output per request, and output stops at 65,536 tokens unless you turn on long decode. Google has not published numerical per-minute Application Programming Interface (API) rate limits or consumer message caps for the model as of October 2026.

Google made the model globally available on October 13, 2026, 13 days after announcing it on September 30, when access was limited to approved cybersecurity defenders in the Fairwind Program. Developers access the model through the paid API tier in Google AI Studio, Android Studio, and Firebase AI Logic, as reported by VentureBeat. Enterprise organizations can deploy the model through Google Antigravity, Gemini for business, and the Google Cloud console.

Gemini 4 Argon Limits at a Glance

Gemini 4 Argon takes up to 1,048,576 tokens of combined input and output per request. Output stops at 65,536 tokens by default unless you use long decode. Google publishes no per-minute API rate limits or Gemini app message caps for Argon, and its rate limits page points developers to Google AI Studio.

The Gemini 4 Argon explained guide covers what the model does, and Gemini 4 Argon pricing shows what a call at these limits costs.

Context Window Mechanics and Maximum Output Tokens

Gemini 4 Argon's input and output share one 1,048,576-token budget per call. A 900,000-token prompt leaves at most 148,576 tokens for output, and only with long decode; a standard call still stops at 65,536 output tokens.

Both output figures come from the Gemini API model page. Vals AI ran its benchmarks with a 262,144-token output setting. That number is a Vals test setting; Google's documented limits are the 65,536-token default and 1,048,576 with long decode. Google's September 30 wording, '1M output tokens, up from 64,000', is superseded by those model page figures.

Input processing accepts text, images, video, audio, and Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Output is text only, so Argon cannot return images or audio.

API Rate Limits and Batch Processing Caps

Google publishes batch enqueued-token caps for Gemini 4 Argon by tier, but no per-minute or per-day rate limits. The official rate limits documentation directs developers to inspect their assigned Requests Per Minute (RPM) and Tokens Per Minute (TPM) within Google AI Studio.

Tier 1 projects can enqueue up to 5,000,000 tokens, Tier 2 projects can enqueue 500,000,000 tokens, and Tier 3 projects reach a ceiling of 1,000,000,000 tokens.

The model is entirely excluded from the Gemini API free tier, as confirmed in the Gemini API pricing documentation. Developers must register a billing account to invoke the model identifier gemini-4-argon. Subscriber Usage Limits in Google Apps

Google gives no message counts for Gemini 4 Argon on Google AI Pro or Ultra and describes each plan's access only in words. According to the official subscriptions page, Google AI Ultra subscribers get higher access to Argon in the Gemini app, AI Mode and Google Antigravity. Google AI Pro subscribers receive expanded access that is rolling out in select countries.

Google documents no way to see your remaining Argon messages in the Gemini app, so the Google AI subscriptions page wording is the only published guide to each plan's allowance. Google AI Plus subscribers and non-paying users receive no access to the model, as outlined in the analysis of is Gemini 4 Argon free.

Google Antigravity access is available to Google AI Ultra subscribers, while the plan page also lists expanded Antigravity access for Google AI Pro users.

Google is also granting 10,000 scientists free six-month access to the highest Antigravity usage tier on a rolling basis. Google says places are subject to eligibility, capacity, and selection. Commercial teams assessing seat value can read the breakdown on is Gemini 4 Argon worth it.

Feature and Compliance Restrictions

The model does not support the Gemini Live API. Computer use is labelled Preview, and Google's HIPAA page warns against using pre-GA offerings with Protected Health Information (PHI).

Context caching is implicit only, and cached input bills at $0.10 per 1 million tokens through November 30, 2026. Developers can set thinking to low, medium, or high, and thinking tokens bill at the output rate of $10.00 per 1 million tokens through November 30, 2026.

The public model keeps Google's cyber guardrails, backed by a multi-layer defense stack (jailbreak resistance, monitoring, enforcement) and an automated misalignment monitor under Google's Frontier Safety Framework. Cybersecurity defenders who need Argon without cyber guardrails apply to the Fairwind Program, which Google is expanding to hundreds of additional partners.

The Google Cloud HIPAA compliance page covers Gemini Enterprise, Agent Platform, and Workspace tools, but omits the standalone Gemini API and never names Argon directly. Organizations handling PHI must confirm Business Associate Agreement (BAA) coverage in writing with Google before sending PHI. Those organizations must also keep PHI out of the Gemini API in Google AI Studio.

Cost Projections Under Gemini 4 Argon Limits

Argon bills per token. Through November 30, 2026, standard API calls cost $2.00 per 1 million input tokens and $10.00 per 1 million output tokens, including thinking tokens. Starting December 1, 2026, standard rates double to $4.00 per 1 million input tokens and $20.00 per 1 million output tokens.

Cached inputs cost $0.10 per 1 million tokens through November 30, 2026, rising to $0.20 per 1 million tokens in December. Batch and Flex endpoints provide a 50 percent discount, billing at $1.00 input and $5.00 output initially, then increasing to $2.00 input and $10.00 output. Priority execution costs $3.60 input and $18.00 output through November, increasing to $7.20 input and $36.00 output in December.

Take one call with 20,000 input tokens and 2,000 output tokens. It costs $0.06 through November 30, 2026, and $0.12 from December 1. Executing 1,000 such requests totals $60.00 during the introductory period and $120.00 under standard pricing. Grounding with Google Search or Google Maps includes 5,000 free requests per month shared across Gemini 3 and newer models, then costs $14.00 per 1,000 requests.

How to use Gemini 4 Argon

You do not host Gemini 4 Argon yourself — you use it through a tool, so "getting started" really means choosing the right one.

The fastest way to put Gemini 4 Argon to work day to day is inside an AI IDE, and Cursor is the most popular — it supports it directly, so you can be working in minutes. The maker's own option is Antigravity for Gemini 4 Argon, if you want the native experience. Prefer a different editor? Windsurf, Zed, and GitHub Copilot drive these models too.
