Student Eligibility Rules and Country Restrictions

Eligibility for the Gemini student offer depends on your country of residence, student status, and age. Google limits the AI Pro promotion to eligible college students ages 18 and older inside the US.

Students outside the US can claim twelve months of Google AI Plus rather than AI Pro. Six territories cannot access either promotion. Google excludes Albania, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, and Tunisia from the student trial.

Students who completed the 2025 trial can claim the 2026 offer again. You must re-verify your student credentials each year through SheerID. Details on regional availability appear on the Google One support documentation.

What AI Pro and AI Plus Add Over the Free Plan

The Google AI Pro student tier expands standard Gemini usage caps to 4x the Free plan limits. It also adds 5 Terabytes (TB) of storage. Free accounts include only 15 Gigabytes (GB) of storage.

Subscribers to AI Pro gain access to Gemini in Google apps like Gmail and Google Docs. The package lists access to Gemini Spark and Google Health Premium. Google names both features on its blog without providing detailed technical descriptions.

Billing Terms and Trial Renewal Rules

Google automatically charges $19.99 per month for Google AI Pro once your 12-month promotional period concludes. You must enter a valid form of payment when you register. Google charges nothing until the trial ends.

A full year of Google AI Pro represents $239.88 in retail savings. Miss the renewal date and the first $19.99 charge follows automatically. Cancel before the 12-month trial ends if you want to avoid recurring charges.

Restrictions That Void the Promotional Access

Several account situations disqualify you from claiming the Gemini student offer. Existing promotions create conflicts. Signing up for a student offer while on another Google One extended trial revokes your current offer.

Some shared and partner memberships are excluded too. Family-group members and partner, Pixel Pass, or Google Fi members are excluded from the promotion. Individual account holders must sign up directly.

Review the Google One support documentation to verify your account standing before applying. Clean up account conflicts first.

• Active Google One trials: Claiming the student offer ends any other Google One extended trial you are on.
• Group accounts: Members of family sharing pools cannot activate the promotional rate.
• Partner plans: Pixel Pass and Google Fi subscriptions block student eligibility.
• Missing payment details: Registrations without a valid payment method fail at sign-up.

Additional Google Student Deals and Bundles

Google publishes two secondary student deals alongside the primary 12-month free promotion. International students have access to a multi-year rate. Eligible non-US students can secure a discounted Google AI Pro plan for up to four consecutive years.

Google excludes US students from that multi-year discounted AI Pro plan. Google also provides a bundle combining Google AI Pro with YouTube Premium Student. The official Google blog announcement states this bundle offers up to 70% off.

Google does not publish the exact standalone dollar price for the bundle on that announcement. Google's support page lists which deals apply where.

Comparison with Alternative AI Student Discounts

Google AI Pro's free year is worth $239.88 at the $19.99 monthly price. OpenAI offers no free student tier for ChatGPT Pro, which costs $100, $200, or $500 monthly.

Who this is not for: Students who rarely use Gmail, Google Docs, or Google Drive gain little from 5 TB of cloud storage. Those users should explore standalone options on our Gemini alternatives page. Groups seeking shared team accounts will also be disappointed, as each user must verify independently.

What would change our answer: If Google reduces storage below 5 TB or restricts the five-hour quota resets, the value proposition weakens. For now, 12 months of free access remains an outstanding deal. Claim it before the December 31, 2026 deadline to secure the savings.

Account Setup for Student Groups and Teams

Google provides no institutional or shared team tier under the Gemini student offer. Every student must submit their own credentials through SheerID.
