Suno Studio: What It Costs and Who Should Pay for It

What Suno Studio's multitrack and MIDI tools add over prompt-only songs on Suno Pro.

Suno Studio is not free and requires an active Premier subscription priced at $30 per month or $24 per month billed annually. At Layer3 Labs, we build AI workflows for small and mid-sized businesses, and a $20 monthly upgrade only earns its place when someone uses the feature it unlocks.

Upgrading to Premier costs $20 more each month than the entry Pro tier. It converts basic prompt-based music generation into an interactive multitrack workspace with stem isolation, audio editing, and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) control.

The workspace fits creators who edit individual song parts or export audio into another Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Casual users generating background music should stay on Pro.

Premier Tier Pricing and the Value Threshold

Suno Studio is exclusive to the Suno Premier plan and does not offer a free tier.

Premier costs $30 monthly. Annual billing costs $24 per month, billed as one $288 payment. By comparison, Suno Pro costs $10 monthly or $8 per month on an annual plan. The difference is $20 each month. On annual billing the gap is $16 a month, or $192 a year.

Suno Free offers no access to Studio. Free accounts also receive zero song downloads and lack commercial use rights. Paying the extra cost makes financial sense only if you arrange stems or edit specific track layers. If you only generate finished tracks from text prompts, Pro gets the same v6 and v6-wild models for $20 less a month. Plan inclusions change periodically, so check the current features on the Suno pricing page.

Premier costs $240 a year more than Pro on monthly billing, or $192 more on annual billing. Buy it only if you edit individual stems or arrange multitrack timelines.

Core Generative Audio Workstation Capabilities

Suno Studio is a generative audio workstation where you arrange generated and uploaded stems on a multitrack timeline.

Suno announced Studio on September 25, 2025, in an official PR Newswire launch release. CEO Mikey Shulman stated that Studio intentionally does not prescribe workflows. The workspace lets creators generate complementary stems, such as vocals, drums, and synths, directly against an existing track.

Users can adjust volume, pitch, and Beats Per Minute (BPM) on each track, so one loud vocal gets fixed without a new generation. You can upload outside audio samples and external stems into the project timeline. Finished tracks and individual stems can be exported as audio files or MIDI data for use in another DAW.

  • Multitrack timeline with tempo, volume, and pitch adjustments
  • Stem generation for isolated vocals, drums, and synths
  • External audio file uploads for custom samples and clips
  • Direct export of audio stems and MIDI into another DAW
  • MIDI import and editing, added in Studio 2.0 on August 13, 2026

Version Updates and Advanced Audio Tools

Regular feature updates since launch have expanded Suno Studio from basic stem arrangement into a full editing suite.

According to official Suno release notes, version 1.2 arrived on February 16, 2026. That release introduced Remove FX, Warp Markers, Time Signature support, and Alternates. On August 13, 2026, Suno shipped Studio 2.0. Studio 2.0 added MIDI import, timeline MIDI editing, and chat-bar prompt generation.

It also introduced audio effects like sidechain compression and convolution reverb, alongside a wavetable synth and musical typing. A subsequent update on September 17, 2026, improved MIDI transcription accuracy and added audio stem generation from MIDI input. Clip renaming and prompt handling also improved. Editing one stem in place avoids regenerating the whole song to change one part. This targeted editing prevents you from burning extra generation credits on unwanted variations.

Underlying Model Family and Generation Mechanics

Suno's current model family is v6, released on September 9, 2026.

As documented in the Suno v6 launch announcement, the family consists of v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini. Suno has not confirmed which model powers Studio. Suno stated that as v6 rolls out, older models will be retired completely.

Earlier milestones included the release of v5 in September 2025 and v5.5 in March 2026. Model v5.5 introduced Voices, Custom Models, and My Taste personalization. We examine the technical shift from those earlier versions in our own Suno v5 explainer. Pro and Premier subscriptions include advanced v6 and v6-wild models. Free accounts receive only v6-mini. Premier users also gain 30-minute audio uploads, compared to the 8 minutes of audio permitted on Free. Premier accounts can add new vocals or instrumentals to existing songs.

Download Allowances and Commercial Rights

Commercial rights on Suno require a paid plan. Suno grants commercial usage rights exclusively to songs that a user downloads during an active paid subscription.

Suno Free grants no commercial rights. Under the Suno non-commercial terms, free creations are intended strictly for personal listening and sharing through Suno links. Subscribing to Premier does not grant retroactive commercial rights for any tracks created on the Free tier, as stated in the Suno licensing documentation.

Suno now enforces strict monthly download allowances across paid plans. Pro provides 20 song downloads monthly. Premier provides 60 song downloads monthly. On November 25, 2025, Suno announced a major agreement with Warner Music Group. In an accompanying Suno blog update, Suno stated that Studio would maintain unlimited download functionality. Whether Studio maintains unlimited downloads under the v6 model regime remains unconfirmed. If your project requires dedicated voiceover or spoken dialogue rather than vocal tracks, consider ElevenLabs for spoken audio generation.

Feature Comparison Across Suno Tiers and External Tools

Choosing between Suno subscription tiers depends on your need for multitrack editing and export volume.

Suno Pro handles full-track prompt generation with 2,500 monthly credits and 20 downloads for $10 monthly. Premier raises the monthly allowance to 10,000 credits and 60 downloads, while adding Studio access. Free includes 50 daily credits. However, Free permits no song downloads, no stem separation, and no Studio access.

Udio prices its top plan the same as Premier but handles downloads differently. For example, Udio pricing lists Pro at $30 monthly with 6,000 monthly credits. However, Udio disabled all downloading of audio, video, and stems following its Universal Music Group partnership, according to Udio support updates. Review our Suno vs Udio guide and our broader Suno alternatives analysis to compare feature limitations.

  • Suno Free ($0): 50 daily credits, v6-mini, 0 downloads, no commercial rights, no Studio
  • Suno Pro ($10/mo): 2,500 monthly credits, v6 models, 20 downloads, 2 stem separation types, no Studio
  • Suno Premier ($30/mo): 10,000 monthly credits, 60 downloads, 3 stem separation types, full Studio access
  • Udio Pro ($30/mo): 6,000 monthly credits, voice saving, all audio and stem downloads currently disabled

Audience Fit and Exclusion Criteria

Suno Studio is designed for audio producers who require granular track control rather than one-click generations.

This workspace is not built for casual listeners or content creators who only need background music. Those users should choose Pro. Pro users who only need to pull stems from a mix already get two stem separation types without Studio. Furthermore, budget-conscious users who cannot spend $30 every month should skip Premier.

Our recommendation would change if Suno offered Studio on the Pro plan or introduced a standalone workstation subscription. If you regularly export stems into another DAW, test Premier for one month at $30 before purchasing an annual subscription. Consult our breakdown of Suno subscription costs to compare total annual commitments before you upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, Suno Studio is not free. Suno Studio requires an active Suno Premier subscription, which costs $30 per month or $24 per month when billed annually. The Free plan provides 50 daily credits and access to the v6-mini model, but it excludes Studio entirely, allows zero song downloads, and provides no commercial use rights.
  • Suno Studio is worth the price if you actively arrange multitrack timelines, edit individual stems, or export MIDI data into another DAW. It allows you to adjust volume, pitch, tempo, and isolated stems like vocals, drums, and synths. Skip it for complete songs from text prompts. The Pro tier provides the same advanced models for $20 less per month.
  • Suno Studio has no standalone price. Suno Premier costs $30 per month on a month-to-month billing schedule, or $24 per month ($288 per year) when paid annually, and bundles Suno Studio directly into the plan. This tier includes 10,000 monthly credits, 60 song downloads, advanced audio uploads up to 30 minutes, and 3 stem separation types.
  • Commercial use rights apply only to paid downloads. You must download while holding an active Pro or Premier subscription, since songs generated on the Free plan are restricted to personal, non-commercial use and cannot be monetized. Upgrading to a paid plan does not retroactively grant commercial rights to tracks created earlier under a Free plan.
