How to Use Claude Design Inside Claude on Any Plan
Anthropic integrated Claude Design into core conversations, with the standalone site scheduled to close on December 14, 2026.
Claude Design is a tool from Anthropic for making designs, interactive prototypes, slides, and one-pagers by chatting with Claude. As of October 2026, Claude Design runs as an artifact inside any Claude chat on every plan, including Free.
Team design systems move into Claude with one "Migrate team design systems" click on the Artifacts page, but chats and comments from the standalone site are deleted when it closes.
What Claude Design Is and Where to Find It
Anthropic launched Claude Design on April 17, 2026, as a research preview from Anthropic Labs, running on Claude Opus 4.7. On September 16, 2026, Anthropic integrated design generation into everyday conversations, as documented in the official Claude release notes.
On October 8, 2026, Anthropic announced in an article titled Build live dashboards and animate explainers with Claude that Claude Design, Docs, and Slides exited beta status. Press outlet Unite.AI confirmed that these creative tools are available across all service tiers.
Visual outputs now render as native artifacts across the web interface, desktop clients, and mobile applications. According to the Artifacts overview guide, an artifact is anything Claude makes that you would put in front of someone, such as a design, a deck, a document, a dashboard, or a small interactive tool. Users access their saved visual work directly from the dedicated Artifacts tab.
- Developer: Anthropic Labs developed Claude Design using Claude Opus 4.7 as its initial vision model.
- Release history: The preview launched on April 17, 2026, entered standard chats on September 16, 2026, and exited beta on October 8, 2026.
- Supported tiers: Anthropic includes Claude Design on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
- Active interfaces: Users create designs on web browsers, desktop clients, mobile applications, and the command-line Claude Code environment.
How to Use Claude Design in a Chat
You start a design by describing it in any Claude chat or from the Artifacts tab. The Artifacts help article says Cloud code execution and file creation must be turned on first. On Free, Pro, and Max you do this in Settings > Capabilities, and on Team and Enterprise an admin does it in Organization settings > Capabilities.
Anthropic's product page says to "describe a visual and Claude builds a first version, on brand." According to the Claude Design getting started guide, users can upload reference images, wireframe sketches, or competitor screenshots to guide generation.
You refine a design by asking Claude for changes in the chat or by editing it on the canvas. On mobile devices, users view and request edits through chat, but manual actions like placing artboards or text layers require a desktop mouse or trackpad.
- 1. Verify workspace capabilities: Enable Cloud code execution and file creation in Settings under the Capabilities menu.
- 2. Start a conversation: Type an interface prompt to describe the visual you want.
- 3. Attach references: Upload screenshots of existing designs, competitor products, wireframes, or visual inspiration.
- 4. Refine conversational output: Ask Claude for changes or to add text layers, artboards, shapes, or notes.
- 5. Share: Designs start private to you, and the Share artifacts help page lists who you can share with on each plan.
What Claude Design Makes and What It Does Not
Claude Design makes designs, interactive prototypes, slides, and one-pagers. The Claude Design product page says you can import from your codebase or from DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX files. Charts built from warehouse data come from a separate product, Claude Dashboards.
Anthropic has not published documentation confirming whether Claude Design generates standalone raster logos or vector illustrations. Anthropic's getting started guide covers uploading images only as reference. A separate product, Claude Motion, makes animated clips and product walkthroughs.
The Claude Motion getting started guide clarifies that animation relies on written code rather than generative video synthesis models. Motion artifacts animate text, charts, and imported images into short video clips without fabricating synthetic human footage.
How Claude Design Uses a Design System
Claude Design builds with real design system components, and the Claude Design product overview says Claude checks its output against the design system before you see it. Organizations manage these centralized assets in Settings under the Design Systems tab, as explored in Claude brand design improvements for business.
You can import a design system from a GitHub repo, design files, raw uploads, or your local codebase. The Claude Design administrator guide notes that administrators on Enterprise plans must enable Design Systems manually, because it is off by default on Enterprise. Admins can lock a team to a single approved design system. Every design then stays on brand, whoever builds it.
Anthropic lists two known limits: a design system import is only as good as its source, and very large repositories may lag. For a large repository, link it from Claude Code and sync it with the /design-sync command.
Export Formats and Developer Handoff Options
The Get started with Claude Design help article lists export options including a .zip download, Portable Document Format (PDF), PPTX, and standalone HyperText Markup Language (HTML) files. Presentations can also transfer directly into Google Slides.
The Claude Design product page names eight apps Claude Design connects with, including Lovable, Replit, Vercel, and Wix. For software engineers, Claude packages interface assets into structured handoff bundles for use within Claude Code. In Claude Code, the /design command can import a design into a codebase, export code as a live prototype, or have Claude build the whole thing.
Anthropic has not published a native export from Claude Design to Figma. However, software teams can connect Claude Code to Figma using the official Figma Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. As detailed in the Claude Design vs Figma comparison, Figma also offers Figma Make to generate applications using selected third-party artificial intelligence (AI) models.
Claude Design Plans and Usage Limits
Claude Design counts toward the same usage limits as the rest of Claude, with no separate feature credits. The Claude Design plan documentation confirms availability on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise accounts.
As outlined on the Claude Design landing page, a larger request, such as a full deck, uses more of the limit than a typical message. Details regarding individual account limits and paid subscription tiers are documented in the Claude pricing guide.
On Enterprise plans, Claude Design turns on by default on October 15, 2026, except in organizations enabled for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and owners can turn it on sooner. Artifacts are not covered under a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Keep Protected Health Information (PHI) out of them.
How to Migrate Before the Standalone Site Closes
The standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design closes on December 14, 2026, and projects stay there until it closes. To migrate, open the Artifacts page in Claude and click "Migrate team design systems" in the banner, as the migration help article describes. One migration brings over every design system in the organization.
Migration transfers design systems into the primary workspace, but certain project data will not carry over. Chats and comments on projects are deleted when the standalone site closes, and public project links stop working. The Artifacts tab displays up to 60 existing projects, which remain accessible on the standalone domain until the December 14 deadline.
If a design system reports an error during transfer, users can select Fix in Claude Design Standalone from the migration dashboard. From there, run the check, fix the listed files, and migrate again.
Frequently Asked Questions

- Yes, Claude Design is included with Claude Pro, as well as Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. It counts toward the standard usage limits of your subscription, with no separate fee or dedicated credit pool.
- Anthropic integrated Claude Design directly into core Claude conversations and the Artifacts workspace, moving it away from a standalone experience. The standalone site at claude.ai/design will close on December 14, 2026, requiring users to migrate their design systems into the primary Claude application.
- Anthropic has not published a native export from Claude Design to Figma. However, developers can connect Claude Code to Figma using the official Figma Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to inspect layouts and write native content directly to the canvas.
- Anthropic does not list video among Claude Design's outputs or exports. Anthropic offers a separate tool, Claude Motion, in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. Claude Motion builds animations as code and exports them as MP4 files, without a video generation model.
