Claude Duet for Business
Who can use Claude Duet at work today and how an owner can run a two-week pilot.
A small business can use Claude Duet today only through an owner's own Claude Pro or Max plan in the United States. The owner also needs an invitation from the waitlist. Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, as an agentic application running on Claude Opus 5.5 in a dedicated cloud browser environment. Duet is not available on Claude Team or Enterprise plans, which means multi-user organizations cannot deploy it across employee seats today.
Duet connects to business apps such as QuickBooks, Gusto, Stripe and HubSpot. Anthropic has not published data retention terms, model training terms for Duet data, or admin controls for organizations.
Companies on Claude Team can use Claude with Cowork merged in, which Anthropic made available on plans including Team on September 16, 2026. Claude with Cowork merged in keeps working on an assigned project after you close the app, but it does not send a morning brief the way Duet does.
Can Your Business Use Claude Duet Today?
Yes, a business can use Claude Duet if an owner holds an individual Claude Pro or Max plan in the United States and secures an invitation from the waitlist. Duet does not support Claude Team or Claude Enterprise accounts, meaning companies cannot purchase or manage Duet seats for a team today. An eligible owner should pilot Claude Duet on their own admin inbox, invoices and scheduling first.
Anthropic launched Claude Duet as a research preview on October 21, 2026, accessible through a standalone iOS and Android application or through web browsers at claude.ai. Owners join the waitlist at the Claude Duet product page, and invitations go out in waves with no stated dates. Free accounts are not eligible.
Who this is not for: companies on Claude Team or Enterprise plans, businesses outside the United States, and businesses that run on Microsoft 365. It also does not fit teams that need shared admin controls, which Anthropic has not published for Duet. Companies on Team or Enterprise can use Claude with Cowork merged in, which is available on plans including Team. Businesses outside the US or on Microsoft 365 can compare other agents in Claude Duet alternatives.
What would change this verdict: Anthropic bringing Duet to Claude Team with admin controls, publishing data retention and training terms, or making Microsoft 365 available.
Eligibility depends on your plan and your country:
- Solo owners and operators in the United States on Pro ($20 monthly) or Max (from $100 monthly): eligible to join the waitlist and run individual administrative workflows.
- Companies on Claude Team or Enterprise plans: ineligible today because Anthropic confirmed in its Duet getting-started guide that Duet is not included yet on Team or Enterprise.
- Businesses located outside the United States: ineligible during the research preview, as Anthropic restricts the preview to US accounts.
- Organizations operating on Microsoft 365: constrained because Anthropic's documentation notes that Microsoft 365 connectors are not available yet.
Automated Business Workflows and Connectors
Claude Duet automates routine operational tasks by connecting to third-party business software, drafting action items, and holding consequential steps until a human user grants explicit approval.
In the Introducing Claude Duet announcement, Anthropic highlights several core small-business jobs that Duet handles across marketing, sales, accounting, and general operations. Duet runs on its own computer in the cloud with its own browser. It checks connected accounts at set intervals (the announcement says every few hours) and sends a morning brief of what needs attention. When it identifies work to complete, it produces drafts and places finished deliverables into its Make tab as files.
Duet integrates with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins available through the Claude Marketplace. It automatically inherits the connectors already configured in your Claude account settings, including Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign, and Calendly. Users initiate every connection manually and can revoke access to any connected application at any time.
| Business Job | Applications Used | Actions Requiring Human Approval |
|---|---|---|
| Unpaid invoice follow-up | QuickBooks, Stripe | Sending payment reminder emails |
| Payroll administration | Gusto | Making payments |
| Commercial contracts | Docusign | Sending agreements for external review and signing documents |
| Recruitment and hiring | Publishing new job postings after text revisions | |
| Sales pipeline outreach | HubSpot | Sending follow-up emails based on lead and deal notes |
| Inbox and message triage | Gmail, Slack | Transmitting replies and sending external messages |
| E-commerce store setup | Shopify | Not published |
| Marketing assets | Canva | Not published |
Approval Systems and Credential Security for Small Business
Claude Duet applies two safeguards to accounting and payment apps such as QuickBooks and Stripe: it asks for your approval before consequential actions, and it never directly sees your credentials.
Anthropic requires your approval for consequential actions. Before Duet sends an email, makes a payment, signs a legal document, or deletes any file or record, it displays the exact action and waits for your approval. If an owner cannot approve right away, Duet finishes the rest of the task and brings the approval back later. Certain actions remain prohibited even with user consent: Duet cannot trade securities, transfer funds between accounts, or access an account belonging to someone else.
Credentials follow the Claude Managed Agents design, so Duet never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens. When an external website prompts for sign-in credentials, you enter the password into a separate form on your device that sends it straight to the browser. Signing in with logins saved in 1Password is coming soon, with your permission.
Duet incorporates a sensitive information classifier and safety prompt designed to inspect each outgoing message. The classifier is meant to refuse sharing credit card numbers or government identification, and sends health or personal finance information only when an owner explicitly told it to. Purchases go through Stripe Link or Shop Pay, generating a one-time virtual card so your real card number is not shared.
Disconnecting an integrated app prevents Duet from reading new information, but Duet retains memory of historical data collected during earlier conversations. For OpenAI's equivalent agent, see ChatGPT dots for business.
- Mandatory approval: required before sending messages, signing documents, completing payments, or deleting files
- Hard prohibitions: trading securities, moving money between accounts, and accessing someone else's account remain blocked even with user approval
- Credential protection: Duet never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens
- Payment shielding: transactions route via Link or Shop Pay using single-use virtual card numbers
- Data retention caveat: disconnecting a connector stops future collection but keeps accumulated past memory in the account
Unpublished Terms and Enterprise Governance Gaps
Anthropic has not published training, data retention, admin control or audit log terms for Claude Duet during the research preview.
A business bound by client confidentiality agreements or data protection laws cannot check Claude Duet against those duties until Anthropic publishes these terms. Anthropic has not stated whether information processed by Duet is excluded from model training, nor has it defined retention schedules for Duet data, cloud-computer data, or memory.
Anthropic has not published any admin controls, org policies or audit logs for Duet. Because Duet is not on Team or Enterprise plans yet, each person who uses it does so on an individual Pro or Max account, outside any Team workspace.
Before introducing automated agents into enterprise operations, review standard protocols for governing autonomous AI agents for business.
- Model training policy: Anthropic has not stated whether Duet queries and cloud browser data are used for model training
- Data retention windows: storage duration for Duet data, cloud-computer data, and memory is not published
- Administrative audit logs: not stated by Anthropic
- Connector governance: Anthropic has not stated any admin controls over which apps a team can connect
- Rollout timeline: Anthropic has not announced a launch date for Claude Team or Claude Enterprise support
Claude Duet Compared to Claude for Team Workspaces
Organizations on Claude Team plans cannot access Claude Duet, but they can execute background projects using Claude with Cowork capabilities merged in.
On September 16, 2026, Anthropic merged Claude Cowork directly into standard Claude subscriptions. Claude with Cowork merged in is available on plans including Team. You assign a project, and Claude keeps working across files and tools after you close the app. By default it asks before taking action. Claude with Cowork merged in also supports scheduling, but it does not send a morning brief the way Duet does.
Teams can also use Claude for small business, launched May 13, 2026. It adds 15 agentic workflows and 15 skills for finance, operations, sales and marketing at no extra cost on Claude Team, and it is separate from Duet.
| Feature | Claude Duet (Research Preview) | Claude with Merged Cowork (Team Plan) |
|---|---|---|
| Supported subscription tiers | Claude Pro and Max (US waitlist only) | Claude plans including Team |
| Proactive background check-ins | Yes, checks at set intervals (every few hours, per the announcement) and sends a morning brief | No, executes assigned tasks and scheduled runs without unprompted briefs |
| Keeps working after you close the app | Yes, on its own cloud computer with a cloud browser | Keeps working across files and tools after you close the app |
| Team availability and seat price | Not on Team; individual Pro or Max accounts only | Team seats: Standard $25, Premium $125 per user per month |
| Primary business use case | Solo operator inbox triage, invoice chasing, and scheduling | Assigned projects across files and tools, with scheduling |
Structuring a Two-Week Owner Pilot
A two-week pilot keeps Claude Duet on a few admin workflows the owner watches directly. Duet already asks for approval before it sends, pays, signs or deletes.
Week one should cover only inbox and calendar work. Connect Google Calendar and Gmail, allow Duet to generate morning priority briefs, and test its drafting capabilities for routine scheduling requests. Duet asks for approval before it sends any message, so read each draft line by line before you approve it. Duet uses every connector already in your Claude account, so disconnect accounting, payroll and CRM apps in Claude settings before week one if you want them left out.
In week two, add a single business app, such as HubSpot for drafting follow-up emails from deal history or QuickBooks for identifying overdue invoices. Verify every numerical citation against primary spreadsheets, as Duet cites the exact file source for its claims. Watch your plan's limits, because background check-ins count toward the five-hour session and weekly limits at the same rate as chats. Anthropic gives one full limit reset on admission, available until November 30, 2026.
Document task accuracy, limit consumption, and false-positive urgency alerts before considering broader business integration. For other agents to compare with Duet, see Claude Duet vs ChatGPT dots and Claude Duet alternatives.
- Step 1: Check the connectors in your Claude settings before your first Duet message, and keep only 2 or 3 non-financial apps, such as Google Calendar and Gmail
- Step 2: Read every approval request before Duet sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything
- Step 3: Verify numerical data citations in Make tab deliverables against original source records
- Step 4: Track usage consumption against your 5-hour session limits and use the one full limit reset by November 30, 2026
- Step 5: Record missed notifications and false urgency alerts before connecting accounting tools
Claude Duet for Business Costs and Seat Economics
Claude Duet has no separate fee during the research preview. It comes with an eligible Pro or Max plan.
Claude Pro costs $20 per month when billed monthly, or $17 per month billed annually. Claude Max starts at $100 per month. Claude Team Standard seats cost $25 per user per month ($20 annual), and Team Premium seats cost $125 per user per month ($100 annual). Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month plus API usage. However, Team and Enterprise subscriptions cannot access Duet today.
Duet shares your plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude, and background work such as the morning brief and check-ins counts toward them. Complex analytical projects, such as building a financial forecast or generating slide decks in the Make tab, consume multiple model turns. Organizations comparing total operating expenditures across AI tools can review the full breakdowns of Claude Duet pricing and overall Claude pricing.
Pricing structures and plan limits change over time. Verify current commercial rates directly on the official Claude pricing page.
- Claude Pro: $20 per month billed monthly ($17 billed annually); includes Duet preview access upon waitlist approval

- Claude Team: $25 monthly ($20 annual) for Standard, $125 monthly ($100 annual) for Premium; Duet not included
